Roadschooling: Wycliffe Bible Translation Discovery Center

We visited Wycliffe Bible Translation Discovery Center and learned about Wycliffe, what they do and how to get involved in the ministry. They have an RV park where volunteers can stay, as well! We were led on the on-the-hour tour and had plenty of time to explore on our own. We ate lunch at the cafe and perused the gift shop. We also listened to the guest speaker, which they have daily at 1:00pm. They also offer educational programs but you have to call for the schedule, as they aren't offered daily, but they seem great and the Ticknor Tribe recommended it, but we had to head out of Florida before the next event would be held.

In 1832, John Wycliffe translated the first English bible from Latin Vulgate. He was deemed a heretic for that, and many years after he died, the Pope ordered that people dig up his bones and burn them. Wow! That's a lot of anger and bitterness right there!

We got to see images of many people who helped to translate the bible into many languages and hear many translations of John 3:16. There are about 7,000 different languages on Earth (hundreds in Papua New Guinea alone!) and about 2,000 languages that still do not have a bible written in their language. The leaves on the tree pictured represent languages. We all signed up to pray for a bibleless country.
We also learned many facts. One that always thrills me is the historical accuracy of the bible.

I especially enjoyed reading different translations of the bible. Our family favorite is the Hawaiian Pidgin bible, called Da Jesus Book. It's pretty close to our English, so we could understand it. I read the story of Nicodemus from John 3 in each bible we had access to.
If you don't know the story, you can read it here.
I also wish we had arrived earlier in the day so we could take the free tour offered by CRU across the street but, alas, we didn't get to do that either. Well, that adds to our "To Do" list for next time.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16

And he said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." Mark 16:15-16
